The entire milking system is built around the inflation. Its the only component to come directly in contact with the the cow. If the vacuum level is stable and the inflation action is correct at the teat end, stress on the cow is minimized. Overlooking timely inflation changes wastes the money spent on the rest of the milking system and can contribute to heard health problems. From the first day a rubber inflation milks, it deteriorates. Contact with milk fat, bacteria and detergents cause it to loose elasticity. As it weakens, the inflations response becomes slower and less complete, leaving the teat exposed to prolonged vacuum. If the weekend inflation is not changed the stress on the teat becomes acute. And when a new inflation is finally put on, the drastic change from the worn one startles and aggravates the cow.
